MY BELIEFS

WHY I CHOSE COUNSELLING

MY PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

I am a qualified Humanistic Counsellor working with indivduals aged 18 and over, and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

I believe that as individuals we are complex: a combination of biology; thoughts; feelings; experiences; social and cultural influences- life experiences may inhibit us sometimes.

A therapeutic relationship such as counselling enables clients to move towards self-acceptance, change, and growth.
My ability to establish relationships and maintain trust led me to pursue my studies as a Humanistic Counsellor.

It was an enlightening and challenging journey, which enabled me to develop my communication and listening skills, and an understanding of the therapeutic relationship and its positive effects on clients.

Since qualifying as a Humanistic Counsellor, I set up a private practice in Weston-super-Mare.
My professional background comes from twenty-six years in the NHS - working in administration and for the latter fourteen years in Service Improvement, working with teams to improve the quality of service for patients and staff alike.

Alongside my private practice,  I continue to volunteer at a local Counselling Agency, where I am also fortunate enough to sit on the Board of Trustees.
